Merilampi is ranked as a “Highly Recommended” law firm in the 14th Edition (2014) of the GCR 100, a guide to the world’s leading competition law and economics practices. GCR 100 is compiled by the staff of Global Competition Review, the world’s leading antitrust and competition law journal and news service, and it offers a comprehensive listing of the world’s top antitrust and competition practices.
GCR 100 states the following about Merilampi’s competition law practice in its survey:
“Who’s Who Legal nominee Arttu Mentula leads the competition group at Merilampi, practising with partner Erkko Ruohoniemi and a team of five associates, including recent addition Katrin Puolakainen.
The firm has a solid behavioural and transactional record, with particular expertise in the regulated energy and telecoms markets. On the merger side, the firm successfully represented Uponor in a merger control trial before the Market Court – the first time it has been asked to rule under the SIEC test. The court approved the deal with conditions despite efforts by the competition authority to block it. On the cartel side, it advised Koivunen in the authority investigation and later court cases regarding collusion in the car part market, and continues to defend the company from damages claims. It also represents Skanska in the asphalt follow-on litigation, and postal service provider Itella in an appeal procedure concerning decisions by the telecoms regulator on pricing and division of costs. The Supreme Administrative Court eventually accepted Itella’s appeal and overturned the initial decision.”
