Brussels attorney Satu-Anneli Kauranen appointed to Competition & EU Law practice group
Satu-Anneli Kauranen, Attorney-at-law, LL.M. (K.U Leuven), has been appointed as a Senior Associate at Merilampi’s Helsinki office. She will enhance Merilampi’s Competition & EU Law practice having already obtained extensive experience in those areas.
Following her graduation from the University of Turku, Satu-Anneli worked primarily in Brussels. She completed a traineeship at the European Commission’s DG Competition and thereafter worked in major international law firms for several years where her practice focused on various competition and EU law matters.
Satu-Anneli has considerable experience in advising on competition law aspects of mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, and horizontal and vertical agreements across a number of sectors including the metal and IT-industries as well as the media and mobile entertainment sectors. She has worked on high-profile merger cases involving the European Commission and coordinated multi-jurisdictional merger filings. She has also worked on cartel cases, including leniency applications to the European Commission, as well as on issues relating to the abuse of dominant position.
Satu-Anneli also has in-depth knowledge of EU law in general. She has, for example, worked for seven years as a legal expert advising EU citizens on issues relating to the EU’s free movement laws.
Furthermore, she has a wide-ranging experience in EU regulatory law. She has advised a number of companies and trade associations on matters concerning chemicals (the REACH Regulation and biocides), the environment as well as food and product safety.
Satu-Anneli has gained additional international experience in London where she studied English commercial law as a British Council scholar at the School of Law of England and Wales. During her time in London she also worked as a trainee in a City law firm.
At Merilampi, Satu-Anneli’s practice focuses on competition and EU law. She advises clients on issues relating to vertical agreements, horizontal issues between competing companies, business transactions, questions relating to dominance and public procurement.
